GOST 4121-2002 or the state standard applies to the scrap of ferrous metals, secondary metal for recycling, as well as to charge scrap (a product of secondary metal processing used as raw material for steel and cast iron production).

The GOST was introduced on 01.04.2003 and is currently in effect.

Definition and Terminology The following standard utilizes definitions and terminology that correspond to GOST 19200, GOST 5272, GOST 3674, and Appendix A.

Technical Requirements Classification Metal scrap is divided into two groups - for recycling and charge scrap. Each of these types includes alloyed and carbon scrap metal, as well as alloyed and carbonaceous pig iron.

Based on quality indicators and characteristics, scrap metal is categorized into types and subtypes. Each type of scrap metal is defined by its formation method, dimensions, physical properties, weight, degree of contamination, properties, and chemical composition.

Scrap metal intended for recycling must comply with the requirements specified in the GOST.
